I often wonder why others chose a certain Avatar. JimChan's "this color is not available in this dimension" (or something to that effect) is self-explanatory but many others are not. So I thought it would be nice to have a thread where those that want to share can share the meaning of their Avatar.
The reason that I have a White Buffalo is a vision I had almost 2 years ago where White Buffalo visited me in my dream. It was the most vivid dream I have had to this date and I did not understand the significance until 4 months later when I became aware of Shamanism and realised there are Power Animals, Guides and Totem Animals that guide and help us in our lives. White Buffalo turned out to be my Totem Animal and I have been very grateful and honoured that she has chosen to help and guide me. She showed me my life's purpose and it differs not much from what John Panella has shown me in his books. I am here to help my Brothers and Sisters as best I can to come Home.

My avatar was taken from an NBA player's 2 championship rings. I adopted it to focus myself on achievement of my personal goals.

One of my new goals is to bring joy into mine and others' lives. Daffy Duck is one of those characters who is wacky and goofy, and who is not too serious about anything. You kinda have to laugh when you see him and his antics.
It's a small thing, but I like to see people smile.

Mine is just a photo of a weed in my back lawn lol. I just wanted something besides the blank head. Someday I'll find one that means something to me.

I chose mine because magpies have been around where I live all my life and they often swoop in front of my car or set on top of the light standard. Magpies are the "practical jokers" of the crow family and are said to be wisdom carriers. In my day job, i work in stand-up comedy which is often known for bringing to light uncomfortable truths in a light manner. I do believe that laughter is powerful medicine, and to me the magpie represents that, along with the ability to use that laughter for healing and to awaken people to their joy.

Maybe Magpie is your Power animal What is the difference between a Power animal and your totem animal, or is that the same thing? I have seen different opinions. For some they are the same. My understanding, what resonates with me, is that a Totem animal is more important to you. It will probably stay with you throughout your life and may have something to do with your life's purpose (like White Buffalo in my case). Power animals on the other hand come and go based on the particular requirements you have in your life. Of course that is just my opinion. What usually works for me is to search the Internet for answers and take what resonates / feels right. Consulting an Elder is another way but there are not too many, if any, in my nick of the woods .

I picked the whale avatar for a few reasons (thanks Hans). First because I feel emotional when I think of them or see their pictures. This reminds me of the connection I need to keep open with my emotions re my daily life. To be more aware and linked up to my heart. The whales speak to me sometimes when I am asleep. I feel their presence that the natural world is always there, nature works in mysterious ways. The more we are open to that, the more we can learn its magic. Lastly the whale's form is perfect for its environment. Being perfectly comfortable in the deep. THis reminds me that even in the darkest place there needs not be any fear. Wherever we are WE are the light. Plus whales are cute. Who doesn't like a spouting whale?
